System (Tools 5.0)  (System 4.2, Finder 6.0) - Easy Access - to shift-click without the mouse - first turn on Sticky Keys (press the SHIFT key 5 times) pause and then press the SHIFT key twice more to lock it down and use the 5 key on the numeric keypad to click where you want your selection to begin.  Use the keypad to move the pointer to where you want your selection to end and press the 5 key again.  Everything between the two positions will be selected.
